For Pride Month, the media library of Graz University Library is showing a special selection of films that highlight queer life in all its facets.

Stories about courage, love and resistance make it clear how diverse identity can be - and how important visibility is. Pride Month is celebrated worldwide in June — a month dedicated to queer realities, commemorating the Stonewall Uprising and standing for visibility, diversity and equality.

The Media Library at Graz University Library is also marking the occasion with selected media to draw attention to queer history, culture and identity. A classic of queer film history is The Celluloid Closet , a documentary about the portrayal of homosexuality in Hollywood cinema - from hints to open representation.

The Boys in the Band shows the inner life of a group of gay friends in the s and deals with self-acceptance and social pressure. Carol , a quiet, visually powerful film, tells of a forbidden love between two women in conservative s America. In The Watermelon Woman , filmmaker Cheryl Dunye explores African-American queer history with a semi-documentary approach.

United in Anger highlights the activism of ACT UP during the AIDS crisis and Tangerine shows the lives of trans women in L. Moonlight , which won an Oscar, tells the poetic story of a gay black man coming of age.
